Hello, hello! Did you stumble upon here while looking for the ultimate foolproof way to bake a sweet potato? You definitely are in the right place, because I’m going to show you the easiest one-ingredient method for perfect baked sweet potatoes. You heard me right! All you need from the store is a few sweet potatoes.
First things first, Spring has arrived! You know what that means – grilling season is here. Monday was a gorgeous day here in Cleveland – almost 50 and sunny. It was so gorgeous, my hubby texted me around 3:30 in the afternoon, asking if it was nice enough to grill out. After a few texts back and forth, we decided on steaks, brussels sprouts, and baked sweet potatoes. There is one slight issue – I’d never baked sweet potatoes in my entire life. Regular baked potatoes? Check. Baked sweet potatoes? Nope, haven’t been there and done that.
When in Doubt, Just Wing It after some Googling
After some Google searches on baked sweet potatoes, I finally decided I was just going to wing it, per the usual! Let me tell you, the baked sweet potatoes I made that night came out perfect as can be. Just as with regular baked potatoes, I knew I should poke the sweet potatoes with a fork, before shoving them in the oven. This two second step allows for the steam to escape while the sweet potatoes are baking. What I didn’t know was what to set the oven temp to and how long to bake the sweet potatoes. That is where the secret lies, friends…. the oven.
Also, I don’t know about you, but I love a touch of butter on my baked sweet potatoes. Here lately, I’ve been into fancy butters. Oooooh, fancy! 🙂 Anyways, in the actual recipe below, you will find the recipe for my Bourbon Honey-Pecan Butter. To keep things simple, I normally use the Fresh Gourmet brand honey roasted pecan pieces shown below.
Are you ready to see this life-changing, hands off side dish? Without further ado…
